Do you get caught up in your everyday tasks and realize; ” Oh my gosh, I didn’t even read my scriptures?” Or maybe you haven’t even realized that you don’t do it often. It’s time to Put God first and read His words. We get so caught up that “we” are the ones that are accomplishing and getting things done.
WRONG.
God gives us opportunities and reminds us to turn to Him first for help and guidance. I absolutely love Denzel Washington. Watch this YouTube clip about Denzel sharing with a college graduation class the importance of putting God first. It will possibly put you in tears and wake you up.
I have to set alarms for myself throughout the day to remind myself to STOP and get that task done. One of them, believe it or not, is Reading my Scriptures.
As my 8:30 am alarm goes off, it reminds me to put God first and read my scriptures. This morning I said a prayer out loud before I started, asking God what message I needed to hear today.
I opened my scriptures to James 3:17; ” But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.”
As I kept reading, a verse caught my eye at the end of 2 In James 4; “….ye have not, because ye ask not.” I recently have started asking God if any of my ancestors, siblings, or friends have been given gifts that they don’t use.
Let me share a story with you.
My family is incredibly talented in the musical department. They play the piano and sing well. I feel like I am a wannabe singer and I play decent on the piano. Piano lessons have been one of my daily tasks to accomplish so that I may increase the gift of playing. For the last couple of months, I have been asking God if any of my ancestors, family members, or friends have any talents/gifts that they have been given that they don’t use and I could have.
I figured if I am doing my part and trying my best to do my best at playing the piano, why not enhance it with a couple of questions to the Lord?
My brother Brad hadn’t sung in a while and when I asked God this question, I kid you not, my brother texted me the next day and said, “I’m going to start singing again.” I believe God placed the thought of ‘you should start singing again’ in my brother’s head. It doesn’t hurt to ask. Maybe God would’ve given me my brother’s gift, maybe not, but I figured it doesn’t hurt to ask.
If we don’t use our gifts and talents do you think God can take them away from us? And if there is an individual like myself that asks for those particular gifts, can they be given to us, if God feels that we are ready to receive them? There is a beautiful article written called How to Ask God for What You Want. I highly suggest reading it. It is so well written, and beautifully stated with scriptures.
When we put God first and read His words and His messages, He will carry us through our day by inspiration and guidance in what He would have us do. Doing my daily scripture reading has led me to ask God for things that I desire to have. You can follow me on Instagram and read my daily scripture verse in the stories I post that spoke to me that day! I also share the words that I quote in hopes of inspiring women to feel worthy and empowered!
Immerse yourself in God’s Light. Feel His love for you, and all that He wants to give you!!
Think of it this way.
You are the phone, and God is the charger.
If you don’t recharge yourself, you won’t function properly. Take time out of your day and give yourself to God, and you will be inspired by how you will be led.
It doesn’t hurt to ask for what you desire, but I truly believe that we need to do our part by recharging ourselves for God to give us what we desire to have.
Today is day 2 of my Self-Love Challenges that I wanted to share with you all. I ask that you take time out of your day, even if it is 5 minutes, and study His words. Read before you have that big exam or that big interview, Read to receive comfort, Read to be guided by His hand. He has a plan for you, don’t fight it, just take one step at a time. Today’s first step for day 2; Put God First and Read His Words.
Hugs to you my friend!!! Share your favorite scripture or a scripture that spoke to you.
